BRIEF HISTORY :
There was a Sri Aurobindo Chatra Samaj from 1969 in the family of Dr. Jyosna Dei. A proposal was received by Babaji Maharaj Sri Ramakrishna Das and Sri Prapatti from one of their family member Dr. Shyama Kanungo in 1974 to take over this land which was partly under mortgage. The entire Orissa participated to the call of Prapatti to collect interest free loan and donations to pay off the loan. Finally the family donated the rest of the land. Sri Aurobindo's sacred Relics was established in the year 1978 by Sri Ramkrishna Das. It was the only place in Orissa which was always under the direct guidance of Sri Babaji Maharaj and Prapatti till they were in their material bodies.Sri Madhusudan Mishra who is now at Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry was the first in charge of the place.

Consciousness is the fundamental thing in the universe

Don Salmon Our ultimate aim in suggesting the compatibility between science and yoga is to encourage a greater willingness to seriously consider the yogic view — namely, that, as Sri Aurobindo writes, "Consciousness is the fundamental thing in the universe — it is the energy, the motion, the movement of consciousness that creates that universe and all that is in it." Sri Aurobindo speaks with more fluidity than both Milton and Kant put together

Who thinks that Sri Aurobindo is one of the foremost thinkers of all time?
He has given us a synthesis of the East and West by "The Life Divine,"(which if you wish to read it, it is quite fun to read 1100+ pages of philosophy), he has given his own vision of unity with diversity through "The Ideal of Human Unity," and has granted one of the foremost epics of the English Language, "Savitri." Although I am of the West, he speaks with more fluidity than both Milton and Kant put together. 1 year ago

He is much more than that. Actually, he never thought. He SAW, and expressed his vision in such a way that we thinking people are able to grasp some of it. And he DID, so that things that weren't possible became possible. 1 year ago Source(s): http://thisquantumworld.com/PDF/GEBCONF1...

Whenever a higher principle manifests itself, it transforms the lower ones. Life transforms matter, mind transforms life and matter, supermind transforms mind, life, and matter. Sri Aurobindo and the Mother are the only ones of which I can say with confidence that they have completed the supramental transformation of mind and life. If anyone completes the supramental transformation of the body, it will be BIG news indeed. You won't miss it. 1 year ago

Hinduism has an inherent strength of syncretism of opposing views and Sri Aurobindo has successfully and genuinely expounded on the Being and the non-Being through the process of Becoming. We the Western scholars have lot many to learn in Hindu Philosophy and Indians are neglecting their treasure which is made simpler by Sri Aurobindo like erudite philosophers.

Divya-jîvan vârtâ did not have the poetic impetus and felicity of Anirvan's language

to "Tusar N. Mohapatra" <tusarnmohapatra@gmail.com> date 24 June 2008 18:22 subject Re: Anirvan

Friends,

I have in my collection the beautiful 2002 edition of Divya-jîvana brought out by the Ashram Trust, clearly mentioning : "The Life Divine" by Sri Aurobindo; Translator: Anirban.

In the preliminaries we find : Volume I: 1st edition (1948, 2nd revised edition 1970); Volume II: 1st edition (1951); Integral 3rd edition (1981), 4th edition (1986), 5th edition (1994), reprinted (1999, 2002). Price: Rs 210.00.

This shows that the translation has received constant and full attention of the Ashram Trust.

Revised by Nolinikanta Gupta, Professor Surendranath Bose brought out his scholarly Bengali translation, Divya-jîvan vârtâ, which did not have, however, the poetic impetus and felicity of Anirvan's language, re-created to suit the needs of the magnum opus.

All the best. Prithwindra Mukherjee

Auroville is one of the most effective development projects in India

Home > Response to BBC broadcast - Georges Van Vrekhem

Dear Sirs,

I have been a resident of Auroville since 1978. I have been teaching for fourteen years in several Auroville schools to children of many nationalities, a great number of them from the Tamil villages. I am also the author of several books, for which I have been awarded with the Sri Aurobindo Puraskar for 2006 by the Government of West-Bengal.

I am deeply hurt by your report on alleged child-abuse in Auroville. Auroville is not only an international idealistic city-in-the-making, it is also one of the most effective development projects in India . One reason is that we are not involved in it for a short time, but for the further duration of our lives; another reason is that to us all human beings are equal, literally.

That your journalist who put the report on Auroville together had no idea of the background against which she was moving, is one thing. Quite another is that, if qualified, she should at least have been aware of the disgruntled and malicious character of her "witnesses".

But worst of all is the decision of the persons responsible for programming this totally unfounded report, without checking whether or in how far it was justified. As BBC-professionals they must have been aware of the harm muck-raking sensationalism of this kind can cause the targeted people, organisations or communities.

Your slogan is "putting news first". Indeed -- and I should have known better -- this does not mean "putting the truth first".

If complaints had been dealt with iron hands instead of shielding culprits

DRAVIDA PERAVAI 24 Jun STATUS REPORT ON CASES CONCERNING AUROBINDO ASHRAM By nandhivarman 0 Comments
Categories:
Uncategorized AUROBINDO ASHRAM UNDER SCANNER

We live in days when Right to Information Act is passed, thanks to all those who fought for it to become a reality. Aurobindo Ashram Trust had all these days expelled people who raised their voices from within. Using food as weapon to subjugate inmates was shamelessly practiced by the Trustees headed by Mr. Manoj Das Gupta. All institutions and religions had faced internal problems, that had been dealt by punishing those who erred or by eliminating the misdeeds and doers. Only here ego makes Mr. Manoj Das Gupta shield all wrong happenings within. The list of cases given below should help the activists fighting under Right to Information Act, to cleanse the system.

Mr. Shyamsundar Jhunjhunwala, Editor of Sri Aurobindo's Action, octogenarian and famous among Aurovillians, and me joined hands in nineties to see that a hundred year and more old Distillery situated in Pondicherry beach which was drawing more than 2 lakh litres of ground water, shifted from beach to a inland location. Supreme Court Advocate Sanjay Parikh got us success in Supreme Court. But politicians were not willing to comply. It was made an election issue in 1996, and the new Government shifted the distillery.

This contact made many from within Ashram approach me for guidance when they formed associations to air their grievances from within. If complaints like peadophilia and sexual harassment had been dealt with iron hands instead of shielding culprits, so much dirty linen about Ashram would not have been washed in public.

The arrogance of the trustees is the root cause of all that goes wrong, only time will give them the average consciousness of a human being in a civilized society, to see wrong as wrong and to weed out weeds, not those who point out the wrong happenings. N. Nandhivarman, General Secretary Dravida Peravai

Between 1906 and 1908, ten ‘actions’ were undertaken by the al-Qaeda-like (non-centralised) Maniktola Secret Society

Home Views Editorials Offtrack Blowing up a silly question Red herring Indrajit Hazra, Hindustan Times June 22, 2008

The first decade of the 20th century has been considered the most ‘terroristic’ in the history of India’s struggle for independence. And if one goes by inspiration, the Bengal Bombers — led by the revolutionary-turned-proto-Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Aurobindo Ghose — were the closest we ever came to Balasaheb’s ‘Hindu fidayeen squad’. Even with iconic chaps like Khudiram Bose and Prafulla Chaki, both romanticised by Bengalis to this day — and replicated in their own heads by bomb-throwing cadres of West Bengal political parties — the record is abysmal. Between 1906 and 1908, ten ‘actions’ were undertaken by the al-Qaeda-like (non-centralised) Maniktola Secret Society. Not one was successful. Five were aborted because of failure of nerves or lack of planning; four were failures because the explosives wouldn’t work; and one killed the wrong target. Not totally unlike Balasaheb, Aurobindo Ghose — full of Garibaldi-sh notions and Hindu nationalistic-religious ideas inspired by reading Bankimchandra — wanted terrorist actions “to prepare the young men to have some sort of military training, to kill and get killed” before the imminent “open armed revolution”. It didn’t happen.

So, as far as Balasaheb’s desire to see local Hindu boys blowing themselves up into smithereens by picking up tips from the existing (?) fidayeen go, I think all this is the result of the Chief Shiv Sainik being extremely bored. As am I, too lazy to paint the town outside my hotel red, but knowing that Subhas Chandra Bose was dead right when he wrote in his ‘Prison Diaries’: “Those who are considered good boys in society are in fact nothing but eunuchs... The Bengali will never become manly unless the so-called good boys are totally uprooted from the West End Hotel.” Oh, all right. I made up that bit about the hotel.
