SAIEC, Baragarh & Matru Kala Niketan, Gopinathpur, Orissa

Prapatti, a well known name to the members of Sri Aurobindo Study Circles of Orissa, was born on 30th April 1924 in a village Bharogole, 42 Mouza of District Cuttack... He came for good to Sri Aurobindo Ashram in September, 1954. Under the guidance of Babaji Maharaj Sri Ramakrishna Das, on 21st February 1958, a quarterly magazine Nabajyoti was published under Prapatti’s editorship. This led to the establishment of Nabajyoti Karyalaya which served as a bridge between the people of Orissa and the Presence of the Divine Mother at Pondicherry.
The Mother’s work in Orissa started in 1949 when two Study Circles were formed with Sri Aurobindo’s permission (One at Rairangpur in 1949 another at Cuttack in 1950). Sri Ramakrishna Das fondly known as Babaji Maharaj who was a sanyasi at Ajodhya joined
Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry, on 2nd February 1945. Babaji Maharaj had aspired for the people of Orissa to open to The Mother’s and Sri Aurobindo’s Consciousness. With Mother’s happy approval and Prapatti as an able instrument, the first phase of work included organisation of Study Circles, Students and Youth Associations, Women’s Study Circles, zonal and state level Study Circle Meets etc.. In the next phase, Integral Education Centres, Relics Centres with experiments in collective living were initiated . Prapatti under the active guidance of Babaji Maharaj had been organising all these activities. Home Welcome to the website of The Mother's work in Orissa

Sri Aurobindo Study Circle Anniversary, Gania, Orissa

When Sri Aurobindo was preparing to sit down to write, Champaklal brought three copies of The Life Divine for his autograph. Champaklal read out the names of the buyers, which were written on a slip of paper. When his own name came, he kept silent. Then Nirodbaran said: "Champaklal. " Sri Aurobindo turned and remarked, "You should have said, 'Who is this Champaklal?'" There was laughter again. [...]

At noon Nirodbaran read out a letter to Sri Aurobindo. It was written by Sisir Maitra to Anilbaran in the course of their discussion on Reason, Buddhi, Kant, Hegel, the Gita, etc. Ultimately Sri Aurobindo was referred to. In the evening Purani took up the topic. Document: Home > E-Library > Works Of Disciples > Nirodbaran > Talks With Sri Aurobindo-Vol 1 > 11 To 19 Dec.1939

Prabhakaran is no Subhas Chandra Bose: he is a mere Tamil chauvinist
Lankaweb - Netaji was primarily a left wing activist who had received from his political guru Chittaranjan Das, the dedication to the cause of Indian freedom based on Hindu-Muslim unity; compare that with Prabhakaran’s ignorant ethno-centric ‘struggle’ that failed to accommodate even the Eastern Province Tamils.
As to the respective influences that fashioned them, Netaji was born close to the turn of the century, in 1897. Like all middle class eastern Indians of the time, he was deeply influenced by the intellectual and cultural milieu of Bengal, the ‘liberation’ philosophy of Swami Vivekananda and Sri Aurobindo in particular,

April 26, 2009 Yesterday, I went back to the Savitri Bhavan hall in Auroville to listen to Professor Aravinda Basu share his memories of Sri Aurobindo. He was such a beautiful old man. Funny as old men usually are. As captivating as any old yogi must be. He smiled and nodded at me as he shuffled out the door. I wanted to put him in my pocket and take him home with me. Posted by Krystina at 4:43 AM Linda and I went to a march and group meditation at the ashram on Friday for the anniversary of Mirra Richards coming to stay in Pondicherry, oh so many years ago. After the march, a band played and it was the most out of tune group in the history of bands. Linda warned me of it, but it still made me laugh. She asked, "How can everyone remain so serious for it?"

IInd Session: 11.15 am- 01.00 pm Chair- Professor Probal Dasgupta Speakers... Dr. Sampadanand Mishra: Principles of Plant Taxonomy: A Fresh Insight into the Ancient Indian Methodology and Philosophy of Naming and Classifying the Medicinal Plants. Proper nomenclature and classification play important role in the systematization of any branch of knowledge. In this regard the ancient Indian Rishis and Acharyas have shown much transparency in their scientific observations. To them to name was to touch the essence of the thing or object named. They could really enter into the soul or the consciousness of the thing or the object and then gave the name as per their experience. We find a clear reflection of this in the names of the plants as they appear in various texts of Ayurveda. From the various names given to one plant one can truly understand not only the various morphological characteristics of that plant but also the special medicinal properties that the plant has. This is still a mystery that how the ancient Indian Vaidyas or medical scientists could discover the exact property of a plant and its multidimensional aspects when there was no such facility what the empirical science has today. This paper brings a fresh insight into this aspect and throws light on the ancient Indian methodology and philosophy of naming and classifying the medicinal plants. Bio Note: Dr. Sampadananda Mishra is a free-lance researcher. He was initiated to Sanskrit by his grandfather, Pandit Paramananda Mishra. He came in contact with Sanskrit from his very childhood. In 1993, after finishing his post-graduation in Sanskrit from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, he came to do his M.Phil in Sanskrit in Pondicherry Central University. There he was awarded Gold Medal for his excellent performance in the subject. In 1995, he got an invitation to work for an important project,“ The Wonder that is Sanskrit”, undertaken by Sri Aurobindo Society, Pondicherry. In the past twelve years he has worked on many projects and published many books including The Wonder that is Sanskrit , The Century of Life, Chandovallari and Hasymanjari.

The Mother's International School was founded on 23 April 1956 by Surendra Nath Jauhar "Faquir"

The Mother's International School
Sri Aurobindo Ashram - Delhi Branch
Sri Aurobindo Marg, New Delhi - 110016
The Mother's International School is situated in the midst of the sylvan surroundings of Sri Aurobindo Ashram (Delhi Branch) Campus on Sri Aurobindo Marg. The calm, serene and spiritual ambience of the shrine of Sri Aurobindo, amidst beautiful lawns, lush green trees and flower beds, induces a feeling of peace and quiet.

Our aim in the school is to help a child to realise his own unique potential in the light of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother's vision of integral education.... An education which aims at the flowering of the child's physical, emotional, mental and spiritual personality. It is the progressive widening of consciousness which helps the child to manifest that within him, which is uniquely his, leading to an increasing satisfaction and success in individual living as also collective living, socially, nationally and internationally. Our endeavour is to impart education which looks beyond the frontiers of formal education. It is, in fact, a preparation for life long learning.

The school was founded on 23 April 1956 by Shri Surendra Nath Jauhar "Faquir", with the blessings of The Mother, Mirra Alfassa, a renowned spiritualist, the spiritual partner and collaborator of Sri Aurobindo.

The school's motto "More True, Forever More True" was given by the Mother herself and the school's emblem portrays a bird in flight rising towards heaven. When asked about the date of the school's opening, the Mother replied "23456". And as the only possible date was 23 April 1956, it was this day that the school first opened.

When the school started out, a whole batch would have not more than 15 children, but today, a batch has 180 students, divided into 5 sections of 35-36 students each. The school has two wings, the Primary Wing, and the Senior Wing. Headmistress = Sangamitra Ghosh, Principal = K. Rajalakshmi, Vice-Principal = H. Bhalla, Hon. Director = Indu Pillay, Chairman = Anil Jauhar, Founder = Shri Surendra Nath Jauhar "Faquir" List of Principals Harpal Bhalla, Indu Pillay, Mahrukh Singh, K Rajalakshmi

People in Bengal’s villages know nothing about Sri Aurobindo’s life and teachings

Sir, ~ I thank The Statesman for publishing the “100 years ago today” (12 April) about the Alipore trial. Aurobindo took part in the freedom movement long before Mahatma Gandhi and was in the Alipore jail as an undertrial.

In a letter to me dated 19 August 1987, Rajiv Gandhi wrote: “Sri Aurobindo’s life and teachings continue to be of relevance today. He will remembered on Independence Day with respect and gratefulness.”

But a majority of the people in Bengal’s villages know nothing about Sri Aurobindo’s life and teachings, though his name should be a source of inspiration for all. ~ Yours, etc., Sankar Chattopadhyay, Kolkata, 13 April. The Statesman Be Better Informed letters to the editor

Late Dr K Venkatasubramanian endowment annual lecture in memory of Late Prof KR Srinivasa Iyengar

Home > Cities > Chennai Meditating back-to-back
Swahilya expressbuzz: 23 Apr 2009 MEDITATION and spirituality programmes beckon me — doubly sometimes, happening at the same time in two different venues as it did last Thursday. At one end I ventured to go to Royapuram where Swamini Jai Sathya was conducting a universal meditation for an auditorium full of participants from North Chennai.
The other was in South Chennai's Mylapore where the Chennai Branch of Sri Aurobindo Society organised the Late Dr K Venkatasubramanian endowment annual lecture in memory of Late Prof KR Srinivasa Iyengar. It is by divine providence that I managed to witness both events, which are presented here before you.
Nada or sound is a means for meditation, said Swamini Jai Sathya who took the participants into a long period of silence and meditation with her chanting of various sounds and mantras. At times it sounded like an Islamic call for prayer five times a day on the microphone and at another times it sounded like some chants from the Vedas and the Upanishads. At the end of the meditation session, she answered many questions fielded by the participants. At the event in Mylapore, CD Ayyar, chairman of the Sri Aurobindo Society, Chennai Branch spoke on Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. Answering a question from the audience on whether it is all right to worship different Gurus such as Ramakrishna, Ramana Maharishi or Sri Raghavendra and Sri Aurobindo, he said, all are great souls. ''The Mother's teaching is not a religion, but a way of life,'' he said.
Dr Tiruppur Krishnan, the editor of Amudhasurabi, said that Sri Aurobindo was part of history. ''Even if we may not have seen him, our father or grand father would have seen him,'' he said. Dr P Ramani, emeritus professor and director of PRIST University, Thanjavur said Sri Aurobindo's Yoga is based on aspiration, surrender and rejection of all the mental impurities. Janakan spoke in Tamil on Prof KRS on Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.
P Alwar, secretary of the Society said this endowment lecture has been happening since 2000. Last Sunday, five students spoke on different facets of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother at the branch premises on Smith Road.
