If Blaming Centre For Everything Wrong With Indian Science Is Scientific Temper, Then I’m Guilty Of Not Having It  @vraman16 via @swarajyamag
Whether it is panchagavya or Ayurgenomics, scientific investigation into these traditional knowledge systems is very essential. If Indian scientists do not do it then, when transnational firms who are constantly knowledge mining these systems, patent these very knowledge systems

Don't make roads in Uttarakhand. Don't develop tourism circuits there. Don't make dams. Keep its people poor. Why? So that a crank "Right Winger" living in a metro or a foreign country gets to feel the real spirituality when he deigns to visit it.

J.B.S. Haldane created the field of population genetics and fought in the Spanish Civil War. But it's his quotability for which he is remembered
The so-called marketplace of ideas is broken. Turns out that neither markets nor people can be counted on to embrace the rational or the true
Academics think their work is timeless, like 13th-century monks’ transcriptions of Aristotle’s Poetics. Yet never underestimate the power of trendiness

The Mahābhārata is a celebration of such stories. What a variety of stories occur in the epic and what different tastes they kindle in our hearts!
Mahābhārata and its Place in Indian Culture – Part 3

Mandra: The Tragic Character of Ramkumari

Those 3 brothers of Agni are later revealed as Bhupati, Bhuvanapati & Bhutanampati
भूप॑तये॒ स्वाहा॒ भुव॑नपतये॒ स्वाहा॑ भू॒तानाम्पत॑ये॒ स्वाहा  ।

This leitmotif of Agni running away from doing His duty is seen in several places of shruti..
The verse अग्निर्देवेभ्यो निलायत । occurs in a lot of place, with each one set amidst an interesting situation with an equally interesting outcome!

"Cinema has infused mediocrity into every area of public life where rhetoric is an end in itself, slogans are intellectualism and Facebook memes are research.
No wonder then that the Millennial Tamil thinks kitsch is cool and complexity is a conspiracy."
Brilliant-not just Tamil movies;include all Indian languages and  Ekta kapoors soaps and all TV serials.Lowest-how much lower will they go?
The abusive responses of minions of @Suriya_offl below indicate that his fans are just third rate rowdies with very little comprehension. Such a third rate actor with goonda fans getting limelight is a blot on TN.

Although the notice may seem racist at first glance, much of this is true. Most Indians grow up with zero civic sense in India & find it difficult to change overnight just because one has crossed borders.

In general the H-crowd at large is interested in certain figures, and is not that keen to dig deeper to learn more about other equally important figures
E.g. Sankaracharya is ofcourse a pan-Indian icon (though his origins too are in deep south)

But then other Advaita figures are less well known
E.g. Madhusudana Saraswati from Bengal / Varanasi (16th cen) - few people have heard of him
So it is not a geographic thing. It's about selective valorization of certain names, and ignorance of others

Very recently through @blog_supplement I learnt about this vibrant intellectual culture in the city of Navadwip - home to so many giants - Raghunatha Shiromani, Vasudeva Sarvabhouma, Chaitanya
For the most part there is a lack of interest to learn

Even Chaitanya had to flee to Odisha. How can one expect them to go on reconversion spree on mass scale in a land ruled by Jihadis when preserving their own identity was a concern?
Leave reconversion spree, they had to do extensive polemic vs fellow H to defend right of Ms whom they had already made Krishna devotee to chant Harinama.

That aphorism of Sri Aurobindo on not fighting under a general who hasn’t lost a war is applicable here..failure teaches a leader to seek counsel from all sources...he does not keep opinions that are unquestionable...

Don't miss! Agastya Gurukulam & Sri Aurobindo Foundation for Indian Culture present a residential camp starting July 28, 2019 where the Gurus come together for the Unmesa programme to teach young minds from around the world. Find the details here.

There is no such thing as historical enabling in Science and technology. Great research Institutes and centres of excellence can crumble within years, even months. Ideas are the product of a human mind not sanctioned buildings.
Science doesn't live in the past. It isn't History.

"Golconde" is a private residence for the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry. This is the first modernist building in India, built in 1942.

I came to #sriaurobindo' jis influence in the year 1990s ;  after reading his writings on the Veda and Gita ; As I was a devotee of  Lord Krishna 's Bhagwad gita since my childhood ;  I found
#sriaurobindo ' s integral yoga  system so perfect method ;  even you may study Six Darshans of sanatan dharam;  Sri Aurobindo's Words are more revealing than even studying upanishad or gita or any other Text as we name #shastras #SundayThoughts
Indian #yoga is ancient system who helps us to find out our True Nature Hidden in our deep recesses.... Initial study of sri  aurobindo's Works  are very typical;  but once mind is bent upon his works  ; one  will not find any parallel Master, Yogi or any Path who makes one  truly Universal Personality .... #integralYoga

Overpopulation has made India ungovernable and its Democracy dysfunctional. Once the States get Sovereignty, they will solve local problems on their own; no need for Delhi megalomania dictating, nor national outlook is warranted. #MakeIndiaHistory by opting for #BharataFederation
Bande Mataram was written with Bengal in mind and it played a stellar role during Partition of Bengal (1905) movement. All the gains of Bengal Renaissance during the previous 100 years were harnessed to sow the seed of Independence of India. Bengal must become a Sovereign nation.
So called national culture is corrupting and destroying local traditions and languages. Present Odisha symbolising the great Kalinga Empire must get Sovereignty to safeguard its rich heritage. #MakeIndiaHistory by opting for #BharataFederation as per #FiveDreams of Sri Aurobindo.
Thanks for excellent presentation. A trivia: First Odia ICS Officer, Nilamani Senapati belongs to the Garedi Panchana village. He and Bhingarpur Choudhury family are within our circle of relatives. Our caste is Mastan (perhaps Mahasthan) Brahmins who don't perform puja (Bhumihar)
The Mother & Sri Aurobindo have provided the occasion and opportunity to forget about all past icons and affinities. Their contribution in black and white surpass all colourful imaginations of human civilisation by light years. But recognising them constitutes a challenging task.

Nobody has been to the Premodern India

Assorted tweets:

Having limited Mahatma Gandhi to sanitation, Modi is ignoring & will never propagate  his central message: NON-VIOLENCE or TRUTH. via @ThePrintIndia

Goa, Goan, Gone? There Is A Lakshman Rekha In Politics, And BJP Just Breached It With Impunity via @swarajyamag Supporters of Moitra, supposedly senior editors & academics, resorted to diversionary tactics, hypocrisy & chicanery. Instead of engaging with the charge, they chose to bully, pan, discredit, troll, undermine and scam those who had raised it.
An author's absolution does not, like a papal bull, wash away the ‘sin’ of plagiarism. It is not the author’s word for or against such an allegation that should count, but the actual evidence. This article examines precisely that, in a systematic, detailed & fair treatment.

Holding that State must be kept out of education is easier part. Whether community or corporate are capable of designing curriculum needs to be pondered over. Current concept of education based on European modernity has run its course. Brick and mortar must give way to informal.
No one has experienced whole of life and consequently all portrayals of it are inchoate. Stretches of long years may be eventful but in terms of understanding reality of life can be a desert. Spectrum is merely a certain conception or visible aberration of light; not light itself.

As the intellectual fountainhead of the ideology of Hindutva, V D Savarkar is undoubtedly one of the most contentious political thinkers and leaders of the twentieth century. Proud to announce my new book #Savarkar: Echoes from the Past!
Preorder here:

52) Hymns 334 - 341 (Verses 3,479 - 3,541): Description of Rig-Veda, Mandala 04, Sukta 038 to 045 (including hymns addressed to Dadhikravan); with #SriAurobindo's words on the birth and ascent of Agni

Save the heritage. A house that was home to #Uttarpara Raja's along with Sri Aurobindo, Michael Madhusudhan, #Vidyasagar. #Netaji, Prafulla Sen, Master Surya Sen, Bankim Chandra, Sarat Chandra, Rabindranath Tagore, Crown Prince of Thailand Prisdang, Maa Sarada @MamataOfficial

As I sometimes remind people - Nobody has been to the India that I study. Premodern India is a foreign and completely inaccessible place to physically visit, for everyone in the 21st century.

Historians analyze the past. We lovingly joke that we leave bad predictions about the future to our colleagues in political science.
In all seriousness, I can tell you this based on history: Things can get bad. And things can change, sometimes rather quickly.

Integrity. Honesty. History.
Also, unlike a lot of Hindutva fanatics, I am not ashamed of premodern India. Ancient India boasts a lot of history of which folks might be proud, just not according to the standards of modern science and Islamophobia. #India #history

Accusing someone of showing the Dunning-Kruger effect makes a lot of people feel clever, but they don't realize that in order to accuse someone of that requires the accuser to be affected by the Dunning Kruger effect himself. IOW a circular argument

Despite Mr. Pinker, Nietzsche's figure of the tightrope-walker over an abyss in his *Zarathustra* is very relevant here. The abyss is his forecast of "two centuries of nihilism", which we call now "chaotic transition" or "New Normal". The climate crisis is an aspect of that.

We’ve all grown up watching the perfect, always righteous Disney princesses.

The timidity of imagination, the incompetence of execution, the mortal fear of failure, the bowing before the enemy before the first shot was fired, winning as an end, and an overbearing, crushingly desperate and embarrassingly obvious Mahatma-complex. Anything else? 🙂

One of the root cause of the unhappiness in many Indians is that we can't pursue any profession where our talent lies due to archic education system & family pressure. As a result many struggle monetarily in a profession which they never liked from the beginning.
Until we create enough incentives for respective talents our human resources will continue to waste. Current education statement is good for desk jobs and those will be taken by machines soon. Traits like Creativity, entrepreneurship must be encouraged...
otherwise we're looking towards a dark future no matter how many elections you continue to win.

Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam, world renowned performing artist & research scholar, delivered a special lecture on "Role of India's Soft Power in the Indian Ocean Region" as part of CSP’s academic partnership in the Peninsula Foundation's conference on India and the Indian Ocean Region.
"So much of what is presented as dance in Southeast Asia is very close to India. 85% of Southeast Asian languages have roots in Sanskrit. To this effect, there are 10,000 inscriptions that are traceable."

Genetic analysis of ancient cattle remains show that Middle Eastern cattle stock suddenly saw a large infusion of Indian zebu bulls around 4000 years ago. Interestingly this coincides with widespread desertification and the decline of Harappan cities.
It is also interesting that, a few centuries later, we have evidence of Mitanni migrations into northern Iraq from the east. This group not only worshipped Vedic gods but also brought with them Indian iron technology

Around 4000 years ago, a dramatic change occurred in the Middle East - a rapid, widespread, wholesale influx of Indian Zebu cattle from the Indus Valley - which soon reached Europe.
Did the Indian cattle invade the West of their own accord? #AIT

You need do no further than analyze the Puranic lists & to cross check them with Rig Vedic evidence to realize what dynasty the burial belongs to. It could very well be Kaurava or N Pancala.

Marxist-Muellerians are such disgraceful beings, lacking any capacity for reform & honesty even in utter defeat.
A 'historian' Ruchika Sharma in JNU screams, “Why is ASI calling it a chariot! It's only a bullock cart! ASI is wearing the lens of Hindutva!"

Genetic & archaeological studies are under way.
Exciting times!

Many Hindus are confused.... Article 25  of Indian Constitution gives rights to propagate religion to minority communities. OK agree. but it does not give them right to do FRAUD, money, coercion, threat, lure or Fear based conversions ! We also have right to defend our Dharma

Attended a very articulate talk on Menstruation across cultures by Shri Nithin Shridhar at Ramakrishna College for women, Coimbatore. Very important for young girls of an impressionable age to hear the right narratives and perspectives delivered in language they can understand.

Reserve the 28th of July 2019, for huge surprises!

One must understand that UN sees muslim countries as their potential petrol_capital and they are monitored by Vetican Churches. Isa_Musa are brothers though rivals too. Hindus are oldest and best/toughest civilization and thus are envied by barbarians Crusaders/muslims. #VainUN.

The culprit is here. At the same time, I was wondering why don't you remember this famous "All Nature dumbly calls to her alone" line often? Telepathy?

Understanding, collaborating, and improving

Assorted tweets:

Some of the  modern Bengali sociologists are allergic to Sri Aurobindo. Reason? Sri Aurobindo asks for a refined life style, which they can't practise. I too can't satisfy the minimum standard set by him. But I don't speak disparagingly of Sri Aurobindo.

We need to be aware of those who claim to be working for Dharma, but follow the most adharmic ways and means just to satisfy their EGO and fulfill their vested interest. No sign and symptom of Dharma are to be found in their character. They want others to follow them blindly.

In my experience, the proud Hindu nationalists and promoters of hate seem wholly ignorant of dharmashastras, the beauties of the Bhagavad Gita or Shanti parvan, the deep thought of Ramanuja or Shankara. What exactly are they so proud of?

most religions/moral frameworks/cultures/state tacitly allow prostitution as an unavoidable market phenomenon that takes care of uncontrollable fluctuations in imbalance in demand-supply of "sex" through the state/insttn preferred "marriage" mechanism.

U notice in Hindu temples U never see of many Hindu warriors who set the example of defending Hindu Dharma was under threat.U see Guru pics but never warriors.Aurobindo was right about these Hindus themselves have taken the Kshatriya out of Hinduism and now are paying the price

Be--and become--yourself; that would be so much greater & grander than anything else. Of course, there is so much to learn from one another. Good luck!

Intellectuals not interested in reading Sri Aurobindo can be likened to a foreign tourist visiting many places but missing Taj Mahal. Finding value through rational search should have been normal, but indoctrination prevents most from accepting anything outside their safe limits.

India and the Indian: Will we never be able to achieve consensus on being legitimately Indian, writes Aakash Singh Rathore

That was recognised instantaneously, hence  John Adams put it "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

Jefferson's choice of the word "happiness" has unfortunately led to a certain hedonistic streak and avoidance of "pain" in American life to the extent that "happiness" in its bowdlerized form is today privileged over "liberty"

Overheard: Bharat Mata Tyagis are saying Indians should give up laptop and paper and use palm leaves as laptop is Western culture and paper is Chinese culture, to free themselves from 'slavery'.  😀
