The words of Sri Aurobindo help us to rise above fatalism yet having full faith in dharma-oriented principles of Hinduism . Indeed , it's not an easy task to talk about freewill when affairs of life are dictated by the karmas (actions) of past . Sri Aurobindo rightly states that human beings are bound by the "cause and effect" theory confirming that it's a Himalayan task to do away with this cycle in absence of Lord's grace . According to Yogavasishtha destiny is but another name for perseverance . Lord Krishna clear all doubts in this regard when He warns Arjuna that " by your nature, you will have to be engaged in warfare". In other words , although man is guided by his Samskaras(impressions) attained in previous births , the devotion towards Lord allows him to shatter the cycle of Karmas . Well, one can take refuge in Lord or with the help of Buddhi Yoga (work done through wisdom ) easily overcome the impulses generated by the fate .
