Sri Aurobindo was born in Calcutta on August 15, 1872. The name given to Sri Aurobindo at birth was Aurobindo Ackroyd Ghose! His father Dr KD Ghose had just come back from England with a completely Western outlook. He was enamoured of everything Western and, because a British lady Miss Annette Ackroyd happened to be present, her name was also added to Aurobindo’s name. The Telegraph Thursday, August 11, 2005
