Letters To The Editor, The Statesman, Tuesday, 15 April 2008: Aurobindo Point
Sir, ~ I am a freedom fighter and one of the oldest residents of Garia, falling under the jurisdiction of Sonarpur police station. I am 99 and a half years. Metro Rail is the crowning and glory of India, a proud privilege of Indians in general. The extension of Metro Rail from Tollygunge to Garia is nearing completion.
My humble request is that the terminal New Garia Metro station be renamed “Aurobindo Point” after Sri Aurobindo. The railways have always paid rich tributes to the great sons of India by naming stations after them. The proposed New Garia station area has a very pertinent relevance to the name of Sri Aurobindo as this place is juxtaposed with the native place of his maternal grandfather, Rishi Rajnarayan Bose. ~ Yours, etc., Gopi Charan Das, Garia, 10 April.
