Suresh Hindocha will give a talk on Auroville’s economic self-sufficiency

Inviting Suresh Hindocha for an open talk to the community
Town Hall Conference Hall ::: 5:00 PM
Suresh is the nephew of Huta and the son of Laljibai Hindocha, the Pondy based industrialist whom the Mother had put in charge of Auroville's industrial zone. This family purchased the land for the Matrimandir and made a donation towards the crystal in the Inner Chamber.
Suresh Hindocha is a unique witness regarding the Mother’s vision for a town of 50,000 inhabitants town to be built in 5 years, as well as the essential role that industries need to play to assure Auroville’s economic self-sufficiency.
Suresh Hindocha graduated from Aberdeen University in 1967 as an electrical engineer, and taught English, electricity and electronics at the Sri Aurobindo International Centre of education. He also acted as a technical advisor to Auroville. There was special edition on urban planning in a Scientific American magazine to which he was a subscriber. In that issue there was an advertisement by the Planning Research Corporation regarding urban planning. He wrote to them and Dr Sidney I Firstman replied, explaining how new towns could be built with systems engineering in five years. Suresh reported this to the Mother and got her blessings to invite Sidney Firstman to discuss the matter directly with her. And Firstman came, in January-February 1969, to present to the Mother concepts of systems engineering applicable to building cities. A preliminary masterplan was prepared on that occasion with the intention of submitting it to the Ford Foundation for financing a 5 crore feasibility study. On March 13, 1969, the Mother signed as President of the Sri Aurobindo Society a 13-page document that Suresh was to submit in person to the Ford Foundation.
