NOVEMBER 7, 2015 - The Future Foundation School in Kolkata has become the first school in Asia to have French as a second language. Considered as one of the best known sociologist of the country, Professor Surendra Munshi inaugurated the learning pageant at the school on November 6. The newly appointed Consul General of France Damien Syed was also present there.
According to newspaper reports, Professor Munshi told the children that they are lucky to study in a school that combines spirituality and academics along with physical development and asked them to make the most of it. The school is based on the educational philosophy of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother and this pageant showcased the unique teaching methods that are aimed at all-round, holistic development of students.
Damien Syed started his speech by saying, "Suprabhat. Ami ekhane eshe khub khusi hoyechi". There was a lot of cheering from the audience on hearing him speak in Bengali. He pointed out that Bengal and France share deep-rooted historical and cultural links and that the Future Foundation School is the first in Asia to have French as a second language. The school is also the first in Kolkata to get NABET certification.
The school has cultivated an integral and holistic education system by consciously moving away from a teacher-controlled to a teacher-facilitated learning system that makes education fun. As per the school's principal, the parents can come in and see what is taught and how it is taught right from Class 1 to 8. Not many schools take this initiative.
