Since his death in 1950, Sri Aurobindo has been known primarily as a yogi and a philosopher of spiritual evolution. However, the years spent in yogic retirement were preceded by nearly four decades of rich public and intellectual work. Peter Heehs, one of the founders of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram Archives, is the first to relate all the aspects of the yogi’s life. The result is "The Lives of Sri Aurobindo," the most comprehensive, thorough, and balanced study to date of Sri Aurobindo Ghose's remarkable life and thought. Peter Heehs was born and educated in the United States but has lived in India since 1971. One of the founders of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram Archives, he is currently a member of the editorial board of the Complete Works of Sri Aurobindo, and has published many books and articles.

As we can never forget Babaji and Prapatti we can never forget too Animesh

Mother’s Lion’s Lion- Animesh
Shyama Kanungo 2_Souvenirs/Souv_AC_2008

Animesh has left his body. Unbelievable. It was almost irritating to know that there was many a slip in saving the day for this specially protected specially, loved individual who had still much to do for The Mother’s Sacred Mission. How could it happen? Finally it is the decision between the soul and its Maker. Mother’s children of Orissa cannot forget this unforgettable child of the Mother. Remembering Champaklal’s written statement- ‘Children born in this family are special’ – the family he meant was of course - Uchhab Mausa’s extended family.

Surely the most special of them was Animesh. The dynamic service he rendered to Uchhab Mausa’s involvement in facilitating so many rare and significant works in Orissa is unparalleled. It was not just the financial support of his father he geared– it was a close loving supervision of the details that was astounding. Each time the sacred Relics of the Lord came to Orissa behind the scene he was always there to straighten out challenges. He was straightforward and almost rough towards any shilly shallying in the Divine’s work. At the same time his cheerfulness and jovial countenance endeared him to all.

To bring The Lord’s Sacred Relics he had played a significant role and gave his might but there was one momentous work where we can point to his special and sole role- that is to bring Champaklal to Orissa. The logistics and deepest personal interaction of Animesh with Mother’s Lion Champaklal we do not know- we cannot fathom. However Orissa can never be grateful enough for Champaklal’s visit over 10 years from 1978 to 1988. In Madhusudan Reddy’s words-

‘You people of Orissa you were going to Pondicherry to see the Mother? Now the Mother Herself has come to see you in Champaklal’.

This unassuming child of The Mother - one of those ishwarkoti personalities who come with the Divine to take care of Him - such a one was Champaklal - He gave his all to the Masters who in turn gave Themselves to him. At moments many in this hallowed land of Orissa have concretely felt MotherSriAurobindo’s Presence in the forefront with a silent melting out of the personality of Champaklal.

Tugging by the hand of this Great personality and bringing him to Orissa was none other than Animesh. On his shoulders the Mother’s Lion came riding- On his shoulders the Lord and the Mother came. Animesh’s role will ever remain etched in the Wonderful New Spiritual history of Orissa. As we can never forget Babaji and Prapatti we can never forget too the Mother’s Lion’s lion - Animesh.

A vast surrender was his only strength.
Savitri – Sri Aurobindo

Puducherry will emerge as a major centre for cruise tourism in near future

The Auroville International Project and Sri Aurobindo Ashram here were adding to richness, the legacy and also full-fledged projection of Puducherry as a destination. Those in this world are unfortunate who have not had the touch of Sri Aurobindo’s mind

to tusarnmohapatra@gmail.com date15 May 2008 21:21 subject [rainbOwther] New comment on The Mother had permitted us to visit Sri Aurobindo....

Dear Tusar Babu,
I always hold interest about your blogs. One of the favourite books of yours is "Secret of the Veda". Recently I posted an article on this book of Sri Aurobindo. I'll be happy and honoured if you read the article. BABUL"S WORLD http://anantaprema.blogspot.com Email: kripatirtha97@yahoo.com Regards. Debabrata

from Debabrata Ghosh to tusarnmohapatra@gmail.com date15 May 2008 21:29 subject [Savitri Era] Debabrata Ghosh has left a new comment on your post "Orissa has the numbers, but lacks clout":

Orissa has a future. It has just begun to that future just as West Bengal is being degenerated on the contrary. Have you not noticed that the number of Oriya devotees are fast increasing in Sri Aurobindo Ashram?
A great past contains the seed of a great future. Regards.

Dr M V Nadkarni dedicated his life to spreading a passionate interest in the works of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother

From: "SABDA eNews" mail@sabda.in
CC: Subject: Remembering M V Nadkarni Date: Fri, 23 May 2008 10:19:38 +0530

The “sunlit path” in the Integral Yoga of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother is one of a dynamic inner surrender that lights the way forward, clears the path of psychological thorns, and removes the obstacles that present themselves as blockading the entrance to the domains of the spirit. The happiest are those who see everywhere the Mother’s Grace and hear always the sound of the Lord’s flute behind the clamour of life’s events.

One of the new books introduced in this issue is titled A Journey on the Sunlit Path, and it offers a glimpse of the life of one such man who trod his sunlit path. Known to many primarily as a speaker and lecturer on Sri Aurobindo’s works, Mangesh V Nadkarni (1933–2007) was also a noted scholar and highly respected teacher. The book, a collection of a few short articles by him on Savitri and many fond remembrances from his friends, family, colleagues, and former students, shows how someone who journeys on the sunlit path inspires and draws others along the way of harmony and light. Nadkarni’s stature as teacher, scholar, guide, and one who immersed himself in the study of Sri Aurobindo’s epic Savitri is hinted at in these few short excerpts from three of the remembrances and from one of his own articles in the book:

MVN [Professor M V Nadkarni] had the knack of making the most abstruse seem simple and elegant.
He was a distinguished scholar, and at a young age had attained great success in his professional sphere, but I know that he didn’t value such success and fame. He valued inner growth, and told me many times that this was more important than anything in life.… He was an authentic person. I have never seen him negative, cynical and pessimistic. As a spiritually alive person, he could never be so.
Dr. Nadkarni referred to himself as the “town crier”, and that is as apt a description of him as any, because he has succeeded in bringing Savitri to the common man. To my mind this is the most significant achievement of this instrument of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. For most of us the first attempt at reading Savitri is difficult.… But after one session with Nadkarniji one came away in love with this epic.

And in Nadkarni’s own words:
While Savitri touches on the world of human affairs, it does something which no other epic has ever attempted on such a grand scale—the revelation of ranges of consciousness. What baffles many a modern reader is the way Sri Aurobindo has forged English into a language capable of expressing the experience of the overmental ranges of consciousness. Outside of the Vedic Sanskrit there never has been spiritual poetry on such a massive scale; its mantric cadence and power are something new … In English at least, Savitri marks a new kind of poetry, what Sri Aurobindo has called “future poetry”, and we need a new science of aesthetics to come to terms with it.

Widely-known and appreciated for his study camps, seminars, and lectures on the works of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, Dr M V Nadkarni is remembered by family, friends, and admirers in this commemorative volume. His sessions on Sri Aurobindo’s Savitri garnered special praise for their clarity and their ability to draw the listener into the unique beauty of the poetry. The book begins with a few of Dr Nadkarni’s articles on Savitri, which are then followed by a stream of testaments by people who shared the common experience of being inspired, guided, encouraged, befriended, and enlightened by a man who dedicated his life to spreading a passionate interest in the works of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother.
