15 August, a time to be contemplative...

Well, the Mother said in the new world there would be no religion. She was quite adamant about this. Religion means everything is taken literally. The Mother said this quote quote. Sri Aurobindo said this quote quote. Chapter and verse. This is how the teachings of all the great Prophets and Founders and Avatars in the past have been taken out of context. One can still have great passion and love and dedication to the revelation and personalities of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, and aspiration for the path of Integral Yoga and for the Supreme. But it doesn't have to translate into a religion. As I say in my essay, it is necessary to use Their words as gateways for the Soul to access the Divine Presence behind them.

ah, but I am seeing if it can be unbesmirched! You know, I really like the name Savitri Era!
From the time I first noticed your blog, I thought, what an excellent name!
The question is, at this auspicious and indeed heroic time, what is the best course of action? What is the best way to proceed? A dry and academic intellectual approach or even purely intellectual comparison with other teachings isn't the answer, because the physical mind cannot access the spiritual truths. The New Age spiritual supermarket isn't the answer, because the Revelation of the Mother and Sri Aurobindo can easily be overlooked among the clamour of systems, some genuine, many misleading or superficial. Religion isn't the answer either, because it is too inflexible.
The strength in Sri Aurobindo and the Mother's teachings lies in the fact that they truly are "integral" in even the Wilberian sense of the word (i.e. they include all other teachings, like the parable of the Buddha's teaching being like the elephant's footprint that can contain the footprints of all the other animals. So, perhaps it is not as something exclusive, religion or ideology or whatever, but as something INclusive, that this revelation message will become known.
Sure in my essay on Integral World I was pretty harsh to Wilber, but I also showed that the Wilberian teachings are included in the Aurobindonian, which "includes and transcends" them. It is this vast and all-encompassing vision that constitutes a powerful appeal of the Integral Yoga teaching. There is also the strength of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother's spiritual presence. But this can only be felt by those who read their works with receptivity, or in some way have receptivity in their hearts. And that is why it is most important that the Mother - ignored by intellectuals like Wilber and others - be recognised.
That's why blogging, writing essays and so on, is important. The internet is the global brain, the noosphere as some writers interpret Teilhard as saying (although that wasn't his definition of noosphere, but anyway...). So this is the external (as opposed to the inner, contemplative) means by which this teaching can become more widely known. Yes, 15 August, a time to be contemplative...
Mon, 14 Aug 2006 21:15:57 +1000 very true and people today have very short attention spans; so it requires a whole new way of presentation to get Sri Aurobindo's teachings across (the Mother is much easier to read, i have found) For me I just read short passages, and then attune to that Sometimes it is necessary to reread and re-reread a particularily profound or subtle sentence, to get the full Light and Inspiration
